Minors 1.6

If a minor falsely represents themselves as being 21 years of age or older (to obtain alcoholic beverages) he or she is guilty of a misdemeanor and can be fined from $100 to $500 and be sentenced up to 6 months in jail.

As you are inspecting their ID also pay attention to the person’s demeanor and don’t be afraid to ask questions. For instance, notice if the person becomes fidgety, won’t make eye contact or becomes overly friendly. They may even become defensive and arrogant. These are all signs that they are trying to distract you and could potentially be hiding something.

Don’t be afraid to ask follow-up questions about the ID that you are inspecting:

What is your date of birth?

Spell the name of the street you live on.

How old are you?

You could also always ask to see another form of ID or something else with their name on it like a credit card or bank card. Most people will be able to produce something else with their name. Also be leery of people who claim not to have anything else with their name but are carrying a bulky wallet or large purse.
